Westmont Magazine The Home Stretch
A letter from Trustee Cliff Lundberg ’65, Campaign Cabinet Chair
When we embarked upon the Embracing the Past, Ensuring the Future Campaign four years ago, a fundraising consultant questioned Westmont’s ability to achieve such an ambitious goal.
But we were confident of God’s faithfulness as well as that of our alumni, parents and friends. To date the campaign has succeeded in spectacular fashion. We have exceeded our $47 million goal by more than $2.4 million. Convinced of the tremendous value of a Westmont education, we set our sights high and discovered that many others share our commitment to a rigorous, Christ-centered college.
Being involved in this successful campaign has been an exciting experience for me and the other members of the Campaign Cabinet. We are deeply thankful for the many donors who have stepped forward to support Westmont.
Three challenges remain. The first is completing the $5 million Adams challenge match. Stephen and Denise Adams have been beyond generous, giving a total of $10 million to Westmont. Their challenge grant is meant to inspire others to join them in supporting the college.
The second task is ensuring that all members of the Westmont family have an opportunity to contribute to this historic effort over and above their regular support of the college. Participating is as simple as giving online (www.westmont.edu) or sending a gift designated for the campaign.
Finally, we face the ongoing challenge of increasing our alumni giving percentage. Our focus is on increasing the number of alumni who support the college, regardless of gift size. While we have made excellent progress in recent years, participation by alumni does not yet match up to the extraordinarily positive Westmont experiences that our alumni report to us.
As we approach the final stretch, we are thankful for God’s blessings and grateful for the generosity that has brought us this far. The planning for this campaign began a long time ago. Now that the end is in sight, we are enthusiastic about completing these final challenges.
