Westmont Magazine A National Champion

Before the final match even began, Westmont claimed an NAIA national singles champion. Two Warrior tennis players, Riva DaSilva ’97 and Ashley Fickel ’97, faced each other in the finals. Riva won the title and returns to campus next year to coach men’s tennis. Riva and Ashley also played as doubles partners and finished among the top 10 nationally. Both earned All-American honors in singles and doubles. Men’s tennis swept the Far West Regionals and finished third nationally.

National News

The women’s tennis team placed 13th nationally and second in the GSAC. Brynn Abby and Karra Gochnour made the all-regional team.

At the NAIA track and field nationals, All-American Eric Chirgwin finished second in the discus (168 feet), Amy Bergenske placed eighth in the marathon (3 hours, 10 minutes); Annaka Gustafson came in 10th in the 1500m (4:43); and Lisa Sartoris was 14th in the heptathlon.

Men’s baseball (20-28) won the Far West Re-gional playoffs but lost at the Pacific Northwest/Far West Regional Championships.
