Westmont Magazine New Provost Named
After a national search, Shirley A. Mullen, professor of history and interim academic dean at Westmont, was named provost, effective Aug. 1.
“I can’t think of a better person to give leadership to the college’s programs,” said President Stan D. Gaede.
Next in rank to the president, Mullen will be responsible for the academic program, including curriculum, faculty and all student services.
A professor since 1984, she served as vice provost under Gaede for two years. She holds doctorates in both history and philosophy. A leading scholar of the liberal arts in education, she helped establish the college’s Institute for the Liberal Arts.
Mullen applied for the job at the urging of numerous Westmont faculty members.
