Westmont Magazine Remembering Noel Matthews
Noel Matthews ’91 died May 24, 1996, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on May 9 in Rodgau, Germany. He fell asleep while driving and ran into a truck. Although he was recovering quickly after a week in the hospital, he died when a blood clot suddenly formed in his brain.
Noel, the seventh-leading scorer in Westmont’s basketball history, spent four years in the second division of the German pro basketball league. He was planning to join Malakai, a ministry to the children of American military families in Germany.
His wife, Jill, who was three months pregnant when he died, survives him.
