Westmont Magazine Retiring Faculty
An era will end when Robert Gundry, Kathleen Smith professor of religious studies, retires after 38 years at Westmont. One of the preeminent New Testament scholars in the world, he has published numerous books, including major commentaries on Matthew and Mark, as well as many articles for scholarly journals. “He is an excellent scholar and teacher who holds to the highest standards and yet has the ability to relate effectively to a broad range of readers and students,” says Provost Stan Gaede.“He has pushed himself and the rest of us to be as good as we can be. I appreciate his faithfulness to Westmont and his commitment to teaching undergraduates.”
During his 29-year tenure as a mathematics professor, David Neu has guided generations of students through the complexities of mathematical analysis. A great teacher who gave a lot of himself to his students and his colleagues, he also shared his love for church music with his classes. “David is a deeply caring person who took his teaching very seriously,” says Provost Gaede. “No one works harder than he does. He has made a significant contribution by taking leadership roles on many college committees.”
