Westmont Magazine Song of Success
Sarah Elizabeth George ’01 from Rocklin, Calif., has received the first $2,000 Dorothy Westra Scholarship for exceptional ability in music and composition.
The award recognizes women who are President’s Scholars and demonstrate talent in the creative and performing arts. Sarah sings in the Vox Lumina Women’s Chorale and contributed a vocal and piano number to a student-produced CD. Her composition “Remember” was performed at the Student Composition Recital in April.
A gift of $100,000 from Ms. Westra’s estate established the endowed scholarship. She was an experienced singer, a successful composer of sacred music, an organist, and an educator who taught at UCSB.
