Westmont Magazine Stamps Support Technology

The James L. Stamps Foundation of Santa Ana, Calif., has awarded Westmont a $200,000 grant to improve campus technology.

With this money the College can continue to develop existing computer systems and increase the use of new technologies for curriculum development, institutional marketing, and interactive learning.

Stamps Foundation trustees approved the two-year grant at their December meeting, allocating the first half at the end of 1998 and the remaining $100,000 in 1999.

The College is eligible to apply for an additional grant from the Stamps Foundation in January 2000, according to foundation Trustee Richard D. Salyer.

This is the second technology grant Westmont received in 1998. In May,  the Fletcher Jones Foundation awarded the College $422,020, which funded an increase in the computer network system’s bandwidth, or speed.

Westmont is committed to ongoing improvements in campus technology to enhance the learning opportunities of students.

In recent years, the campus has been wired with fiber optic cable for networking, three classrooms have been outfitted with the latest in multimedia learning tools, Ethernet ports have been installed in every residence hall room, and personal computers have been placed on the desks of all faculty and administrative staff members.

The Stamps Foundation grant will allow Westmont to continue its efforts to provide state-of-the-art technology for learning into the 21st century.
