Student Spotlight Leandra Marshall

Leandra Marshall grew up on a Nevada hay farm along highway 50, the Loneliest Road in America. “The nearest town is 32 miles away,” she says. “We have no TV, no cell service, no neighbors."

“I’m funding college by myself, so I was thrilled to win a full-tuition scholarship. Coming to Westmont was a huge answer to prayer.”

She laughs about cultural differences. “I arrived wearing plaid and boots—I didn’t even own a pair of shorts. But I’d never experienced a self-sacrificial community, and I’m inexpressibly grateful for Westmont.”

Leandra enjoys beach volleyball, ice skating, bowling— and serving as president of the student association. With majors in both chemistry and biology, she hopes to earn a doctorate in agronomy and horticulture and return to the family farm. “My parents still need me to drive a tractor,” she says.
