Westmont Magazine Thailand, Anyone?
Take a “Vacation with a Purpose” this year and travel with Mike Leming ’70 to Thailand in January 1997. A professor of sociology and anthropology at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, Mike has led groups to Thailand for five years. His adult study-travel program, which explores the changing nature of contemporary Thailand and its hilltribe societies, is open to Westmont alumni and friends. Throughout the trip, Mike shares both his expertise and his passionate enthusiasm for the country and its culture. He recently spent his sabbatical leave in Thailand writing a book on the Karen village of Tee Mae Ker Lah and producing a documentary film on the same topic.
The adventure begins on January 3, 1997, and continues until January 18 with stops in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, a hilltribe village, and a beach resort. It costs $2,900 per person, double occupancy ($3,150 single occupancy), and the price includes all meals, transportation, hotel accommodations, admissions, entrance fees, and airport taxes.
For more information, please contact Mike at (507) 645-6237 (home) or at (507) 646-3134 (his office at St. Olaf), or send him an e-mail at leming@stolaf.edu.
