Westmont Magazine Two New Trustees

Walter Hansen of Santa Barbara and Robert E. Kates of Sunnyvale have joined Westmont’s board of trustees.,/p>

Hansen, who has a doctorate in theology, is associate professor of New Testament and director of Global Research Institute at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. He also has taught at Westmont.

He has written several books and articles on the writings of Paul, and serves as a trustee of the Overseas Missionary Fellowship and John Stott Ministries. Hansen was pastor of The Chapel in Cleveland, Ohio, for eight years and taught in Singapore for six years at Trinity Theological College.

Hansen and his wife, Darlene, have two sons who attended Westmont: Nathaniel ’94 and Jonathan ’96. The couple served on the college Parents Council in the mid-1990s, and Darlene Hansen recently joined the Westmont Art Council.

Kates, founder and past CEO of Analytical Solutions Inc., a pharmaceutical contract research company, is a former faculty member at Stanford University School of Medicine and Ohio State University’s Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine.

Kates served as president and CEO of Analytical Solutions from its founding in 1986 until the company was acquired by MDS Inc. in 1998. He remained as president until the company was integrated into MDS Pharma Services in 2000.

He continues to work as a business consultant, and he and his wife, Janet, are in the process of relocating to Santa Barbara.

The Kateses have two children who graduated from Westmont: Jennifer ’96 and Christopher ’01. They served on the Parents Council for a number of years in the 1990s.
