Westmont Magazine A Victory over M.S

Three-time NAIA soccer All-American Nicole Smith caught the eye of the “News-Press” long ago, but recently they took an even closer look at her after discovering that the senior kinesiology major has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The Santa Barbara paper published a lengthy feature on Nicole in September.

A temporary bout with blindness this past summer prompted Nicole to seek medical testing, which confirmed the presence of MS. Amazingly, she has returned to the soccer field this fall and, according to Coach Mike Giuliano, is playing some of the best soccer of her career. Nicole scored three goals to contribute to a 5-1 victory over San Fran-cisco State in early September.

The “News-Press” quoted Nicole as stating, “I am a very strong Christian, and I don’t think God is going to give me anything I can’t handle…. I keep close by me a quotation from Matthew: ‘Who by worrying can add another hour to their life?’”
