Westmont Magazine Wallace Emerson Society
Not only are Don and Barbara Raney the parents of three Westmont alumni, but they also worked on staff. After retiring from a 22-year career teaching chemistry at San Mateo Community College, Don became a lab instructor at Westmont, and Barbara worked in Voskuyl Library. Today they keep busy as volunteers. Both have given their time to a local hospital and to Food Share, a ministry that feeds the hungry. Don also visits stroke victims and takes them on errands. The Raneys attend Ventura Missionary Church and lead a neighborhood Bible study as well. When their mutual equity fund increased in value, they used part of it to set up a gift annuity with Westmont, and so became members of the Wallace Emerson Society. This extra income helps them pay for long-term care insurance. “We love Westmont and have great regard for what it accomplishes in the lives of students,” they say.
