Westmont Magazine Wallace Emerson Society
Few people can claim as many relationships with Westmont as Barbara Bare Spaulding ’63. The daughter of Trustee Emeritus Bruce Bare and his wife, Adaline, she is also an alumna, the parent of an alumnus, a former faculty wife, and a former staff member. She headed her 35th class reunion and supports the College as a President’s Associate. By making Westmont one of the beneficiaries of her charitable remainder trust, she has become a member of the Wallace Emerson Society as well. John Watts, who directed the planned giving program before retiring from Westmont, convinced her that estate planning benefits everyone: the family and the organizations they support. Barbara found it particularly helpful to consult an attorney when deciding how to structure her trust . “You can’t take it with you, but you can certainly say where it will go,” she observes. “I’m glad I can help Westmont while providing for my family.”
