Westmont Magazine Wallace Emerson Society

Jon Simons ’79, a lay leader at Herndon United Methodist Church in Virginia, still uses notes from his Westmont New Testament class when he teaches Sunday School. “Westmont had a bearing on my whole outlook on life, ” he states. ”Not only was the education rewarding and valuable, but I made friendships that still endure.” When he and his wife, Patricia, an attorney with the Department of Veterans Affairs, drew up their will, they readily decided to name the college as a beneficiary. “I consider Westmont to be God’s work, and I know how much it touches people’s lives,” Jon explains. He majored in history and earned an M.S. in library science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since 1981 he has worked for Questel Orbit Inc. (previously System Development Corporation) where he manages online systems support . The company has pioneered the development of electronic data bases.
