Westmont Magazine Wallace Emerson Society

Roger and Margaret Voskuyl continue their significant service to Westmont as members of the Wallace Emerson Society. The legacy from Roger’s 18-year tenure as president is impressive: accreditation, financial stability, qualified faculty, 13 buildings, and a four-fold increase in enrollment. He left a much stronger college in 1968 to become the executive director of the Council of Small Colleges, then returned in 1978 to expand Westmont’s planned giving program. “I had to invest in these programs myself if I wanted to interest others in them,” he explains. Supporting Westmont through a gift annuity and the pooled income fund qualifies him for the Emerson Society. Margaret taught at Westmont in 1940 and stayed involved after marrying Rolf Jacobsen, a Westmont trustee from 1947 until his death in 1974. Roger also lost his wife, Trudi, and he and Margaret wed in 1986.
