Westmont Magazine The Warrior Wagon Welcomes Visitors
One day last spring, Executive Vice President Ed Birch discovered the College needed an electric cart to escort visitors around campus. Community leader Louise Lowry Davis had come to Westmont to view the restored Louise Lowry Davis Friendship Terrace she funded, but the campus terrain proved challenging for the nonagenarian. Dr. Birch ended up borrowing one of the gardeners’ carts to show her around.
He told avid Warrior fan Bob Bryant about the need for a special visitor vehicle. Bryant, the owner and founder of Bryant’s & Sons Jewelers in Santa Barbara, made a $10,000 gift for the six-seated “Warrior Wagon.” In the photo below, Gary Harris, chair of the board of trustees, accepts the keys from Bryant as President David Winter waits for a ride.
