Westmont Magazine Wiegand Drive Shaping Up
When the Wiegand Foundation of Reno, Nevada, gave the college a $100,000 challenge grant to create the E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center on campus, the West-mont Parents Council took on the task of raising the $129,000 needed to complete the project and receive the grant. Their leadership gifts and pledges and donations from other parents, grandparents, and alumni total nearly $95,000. That leaves a balance of only $34,000.
The Parents Council will be inviting both current and alumni parents to join them in developing the expanded fitness facility. By enclosing two patios and remodeling a classroom and the existing weight room, Westmont will create a four-room exercise area featuring state-of-the-art equipment.
Parents hope to meet their goal by May 31, five months ahead of the deadline the Wiegand Foundation has set. Completing the drive early will allow the college to finish the facility during the summer so it is ready for use when classes begin in the fall.
