THE INSTALLATION OF THE ADAMS PROFESSOR OF MUSIC AND WORSHIP

In a musical tribute, Westmont celebrated Siegwart ‘Zig’ Reichwald’s installation as Adams professor of music and worship September 29. The day featured chamber musicians, the Westmont College Choir, the Westmont Orchestra and the Chapel Band performing music from the Psalms, Felix Mendelssohn and U2.

President Gayle D. Beebe urged Reichwald to bring to life voices from the past that can speak eloquently through their music. “Ultimately, we’re asking you to set a tone that elevates the human spirit and helps bring us into the presence of God,” he said.

Chelle Stearns of the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology gave thanks for Westmont’s commitment to and support for the arts. In her charge, she said the Psalms command Christians to sing. “We become the body of Christ as we sing,” she said. “So, I say again with the psalmist, ‘Sing to the Lord, a New Song.’”
