A memorial service will be held for Kenon (Ramsey) Neal ’88 on Monday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at Santa Barbara Community Church, 1002 Cieneguitas Rd. Neal, who died July 16 after battling cancer for 27 years, made numerous contributions to Westmont over the years.

Becky Collier shattered several Westmont and personal records while becoming the first track-and-field athlete to represent Westmont at the USA Junior National Track & Field Championships in Sacramento June 25-26.

Beebe has returned from his historic meeting with Pope Francis inspired and motivated. “I have a renewed sense of the necessity and importance of my work at Westmont and with the broader Christian community and the opportunity to carry it out with so many wonderful people,” he says.

Westmont summer sports camps, a more than 25 year tradition, begin Monday, June 16, with Sports Skills, developing motor skills of co-ed campers from ages 5-10. For the next six weeks, about 700 youngsters will develop in a sport in a safe and fun environment on the idyllic campus.

Westmont President Gayle D. Beebe expressed condolences today to the families of the victims of the May 23 attacks and to members of the UC Santa Barbara and Isla Vista communities.

Westmont has adopted an updated seal and a new unified identity system to better communicate its mission and character and increase recognition of the college. The new graphic elements will create greater consistency across all materials.

About 200 fourth-to-sixth grade school children enjoyed a hot day at Westmont College May 15, competing in the Santa Barbara Elementary School Track and Field City Championships.

A friendly competition between Westmont residence halls has resulted in the savings of more than 227,000 gallons of water since students returned from spring break, March 17. The Westmont Campus Life and Student Life offices announced Armington Hall won the Every Drop Counts contest on  April 25.

Pastor Rick Warren, founder of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., and author of the book, “The Purpose-Driven Life,” will speak at Westmont’s Commencement ceremony, Saturday, May 3, at 10 a.m. on Carr Field. President Gayle D.

Sixteen graduating art majors present their capstone projects while paying homage to the Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art on April 3-May 3. The public is invited to a free, opening reception Thursday, April 3, from 4-6 p.m. at the museum.

Ten Westmont students will simulate a U.S. Supreme Court trial hinging on the First Amendment Thursday, April 3, from 7-8 p.m. in Hieronymus Lounge at Westmont’s Kerrwood Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The Constitutional Law class will try McCullen v. Coakley, a 2009 Massachusetts state legislature case that created a 35-foot buffer zone around abortion clinics. The

U.S. Supreme Court will decide the case in its current term.

The first total lunar eclipse in more than two years will be the focus of a free, public viewing on Monday, April 14, from 10:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, at the Westmont Observatory.
