Jessie van Eerden, a faculty member at the Oregon Extension of Eastern University, reads her prose fiction on Thursday, Jan. 20, in Adams Center 216 at 7 p.m. The reading is free and open to the public.

Allen Hopkins, sportscaster for ESPN and FOX Sports, joins the Westmont Board of Trustees, which oversees the operations of the college. Hopkins, a 1995 Westmont graduate, has been a member of Westmont’s Board of Advisors since 2007.

(Westmont has been forced to cancel this month’s viewing of the stars due to inclement weather. The next scheduled public viewing is Friday, Dec. 17.)

“Form and Function: Ceramic Artists in California” opens in the Westmont Museum of Art with a public reception Thursday, November 18, 4-6 p.m. The exhibition, on display through Dec. 18, is the second in the new Adams Center for the Visual Arts.

Westmont student composers, vocalists and instrumentalists showcase their talents in several concerts this November. All performances are free and open to the public.

William “Bill” Kerr, a longtime college trustee and the son of Westmont founder Ruth Kerr, died Nov. 5. He was 95. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 12:30 p.m. in the Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills.

Tim Keith, a private equity investor based in New York and a partner in two green businesses, has joined the Westmont Board of Trustees. He has served on Westmont’s Board of Advisors since 2005, and he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and business at Westmont in 1987.

Gregory Orfalea, Westmont adjunct assistant professor of English, explores the cultures and peoples of California and the Middle East in a lecture, “Promised Lands: Literature and Poetry about California and the Middle East,” Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7

David Newton, Westmont professor of entrepreneurial finance, has co-authored a 160-page e-book, “Job Creation: How it Really Works and Why Government Doesn’t Understand It.”

Ronald J. Morgan, associate professor of history and director of ACU in Oxford for Abilene Christian University, talks about the spiritual transformations that can occur during off-campus programs in a free lecture and book signing Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 7-9 p.m. at Page Multipurpose Room.

Helen Sterk, professor of communication arts at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., will discuss “Gender Partnership: A Care Theory Perspective” Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in Hieronymus Lounge inside Westmont’s Kerrwood Hall. The Erasmus Society lecture is free and open to the public.

Westmont alumna Shauna (Hybels) Niequist ’98, author of “Cold Tangerines: Celebrating the Extraordinary Nature of Everyday Life,” will speak at chapel in Westmont’s Murchison Gym Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 10:30 a.m. The talk is free and open to the public.
